10. Mama Fratelli (Anne Ramsey)- The Goonies
Ok, let's get this one out of the way first as she is the only villain in the list. Sure, Mrs. Fratelli is a horrible person who beats and abandons her kids but admit it, you wouldn't mess with the old bird.
9. Trish Murtagh (Darlene Love)- the Lethal Weapon series
Possibly the weakest entry in the list, Trish doesn't actually do anything in the whole of the 4 films but I'll tell you why I include her. Any woman who suffers what Trish does (getting tied up, watching her house getting destroyed on a regular basis) and doesn't leave her husband or tells him to get a new partner is tough as nails in my book.
8. Peg (Dianne Wiest)- Edward Scissorhands
Sweet, kind and caring, Peg belongs on this list for one reason. While others recoil in horror at Edward and his deformity, Peg lovingly takes him in. She sees past the disability and sees Edward for what he ultimately is- an innocent soul.
7. Diane Freeling (JoBeth Williams)- Poltergeist
What other mother would travel to 'the other side' to save her youngest child? Well, a lot of them, really, but one of them on this list actually did it.
6. Lynn Peltzer (Frances Lee McCain)- Gremlins
Alirighty, so this entry vanishes from the film for a fair bit of running time but it's what she does in a ten minute scene that makes her worthy of this list. Lynn hears a noise in her house and, knives in hand, proceeds to take out 3 Gremlins single handed. Legend.
5. Samantha Caine/ Charlie Baltimore (Geena Davis)- The Long Kiss Goodnight
An actual kick-ass mother, Sam/Charlie is a spy who beats up men with aplomb. And she does it all to save her child. Plus, she has Samuel L. Jackson as a sidekick, can't get any more kick-ass than that.
4. Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver)- Aliens (Special Edition)
A bit of a cheat, this one since she is only a mother in the special edition of Aliens where we learn she had a daughter on earth. She becomes a surrogate mother to Newt though, so I'd say she counts.
3. Beatrix Kiddo (Uma Thurman)- Kill Bill
Ok, so she didn't know she was a mother in the first Volume so her rampage of murder and mayhem is one of revenge rather than for her daughter. This changes in Volume 2 and Kiddo is the one kick-ass momma on this list that is useful (and brutal) with a sword.
2. Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton)- Terminator 2
A wuss for the majority of the first film, the years between The Terminator and T2, toughen Sarah Connor up somewhat. Trained in weapons and carrying the knowledge of a future war with her you wouldn't want to cross Sarah Connor.
1. Helen Parr/Elastigirl (Holly Hunter)- The Incredibles
This entry is probably the most kick-assiest mother in the list. She is an actual superhero and the way she defends her kids against the countless minions is admirable.
